Hi SydneyCityTV – Jason will have accurate information on dates but Ginger Meggs did appear first in 1921 in the paper now known as The Sun-Herald. However, initially he had only a secondary part in the strip which was titled ‘Gladsome Gladys’ – she was a little girl who was always there to get the boys out of trouble. Jimmy Bancks soon found that concept too limiting and allowed Ginger to become the main character.Besides the strip being one of the longest surviving in history it is unique in that it has portrayed various social aspects of the times through which it has delighted readers, As such it is a unique Australian icon.

Hey, Jason, when did “Ginger Meggs” exactly begin? Like “Garfield” began 19 June 1978.
