I see John has forgotten the fine art of ordering pizza when his wife is away on business.

Oh, please…not the stereotypical “husband/father is an idiot and is totally helpless without his wife” shtick. I hate that.

They had better welcome her home with open arms, and candy, and an apology for the mess (unless they can call in help).

Perspective also applies in the way that both Elly and John are looking at their situations. Elly went through some challenges at first on the flight and then in carrying her case, but now that she’s settled in her hotel room and looking forward to her conference, she’s ok. John, who does NOT want to look like a stereotypical helpless husband, is certainly not going to tell Elly that the house is a mess.

If the husband/father can take care of things why doesn’t he? Whether his wife is home or not, he ought to take care of things if he is able to, instead of just leaving everything to her.

When I make a big meal, my kitchen looks like that. It does not make me an incompetent idiot, it just means I haven’t cleaned it up yet. Elly’s call came at an inopportune moment, that’s all.

One time me, my wife and her mother went to a family reunion. When we came back two days later, she looked at the kitchen and exclaimed“It looks like two boar hogs been living here!”(Maybe she had a point, nothing had been washed, and the men were down to using measuring cups to drink out of!!)

It looks like Elly is lying on the filthy bed spread. Nevery do that in a hotel. They only wash them about once a month!

I think we are only seeing what Elly puts up with everyday when she is at home — John is doing no better than she does. I agree with the “don’t sit on the bedspread” idea — but I don’t think they were as filthy back when this was drawn. Hotels once were kept fairly clean as were public restrooms — today they are filthy petrie dishes.
