Today if Obama stated “The Sun rises in the East and sets in the West” I’d want two other valid sources to confirm that and want empirical evidence it is true..Not only is Obama a liar, and I am not using that word frivolously, but he is also just not that smart.

    ’ … no worse than alcohol ..?’

Actually, everything they say about pot is absolutely true of alcohol. Alcohol is very much more dangerous than pot at all levels, but pot is very much more useful – even as a social, recreational drug.

The real issue is that if it’s legalized, no one can make obscene profits from it. It does look, though, as if the current plan is to legalize it, but regulate it out of practical reach.

By what yard stick are you making that claim bubblehead?.We know how Bush did in college grade-wise (better than Kerry or Gore both of whom supporters said were far smarter than Bush). We don’t know how Obama did, so we can’t measure it.We also know that other faculity at the UofC generally didn’t have a high opinon of Obama as an academic..Bush did qualify to fly an F-102 fighter which, at the time was the single most difficult such aircraft to operate in the US inventory. Obama has no similar experiance in his own lifetime he can point to. In fact, Obama’s resume prior to being elected is pretty much thinner than one-ply toilet tissue..So, Bush may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but by any set of quantitative measure he demonstrates more competence and intellectual capacity than Obama has in his lifetime.

Just for clarity, at the time “W” flew a few times in an F102 it was an obsolete, worn-out aircraft. The Lockheed F-104 was the most difficult to master, basically a flying engine with 6 foot wings. And “W” DID desert from the National Guard, period, his political connections to his dad and grandfather saved him from charges. (HIs dad was also a pretty miserable pilot in a TBM/TBF, and bailed out, abandoning his crew to die, and had a miserable, not “heroic” record in WW II except in his authorized biography.)

GHW even at that was much more intelligent (not saying much) and a much better man in the end than “W”.

Which, to the ‘toon on the issue, alcohol damaged “W”’s brain a lot worse than pot would have, and it showed. (but it might have also been the additional coke he denied using.)

Also, while wine and beers were originally fermented and drunk, because the untreated water of the day would KILL you, distilling, like “white lightning” is specifically created to get you blown out of your mind. And, alcohol leaves the person far more “impaired” physically and mentally (as in reaction times) than does marijuana, plus damages more organs. You CAN overdose and die from alcohol, something impossible with using marijuana.

So yes, the medical evidence does support the Obama statement, but I do think DUII should apply to alcohol, pot, AND more importantly, many of the OTC and prescription medications folks ingest all the time, and become “impaired” without even thinking about it!

@ENOKI Dude, you may know military history and maybe you know about the Texas Champain Brigade, but you don’t know sh*t about Cannabis.

So all the medical experts who don’t agree with the president are right wing hysterics? There is now medical evidence that pot smoking as an adolescent hinders brain development. 30 years in a 12-step program has introduced me to many pot heads. Pot is what starts most of them on the road to hard drugs. Further I have met some pretty screwed up individuals who claimed to only smoke pot and drink beer. Granted my stories are anecdotal, but they have more facts behind them then the nonsense posted here. Speaking of hysterics, Anderson sees everything though the prism of a left wing hysteric. You may all go back to freaking out now.

^To the toon and drug discussion, the REAL “gateway” drug with youth, has long been that favorite of the earliest European settlers, TOBACCO! The mild high from nicotine (highly addictive, physically, unlike MJ) is what gets folks going down that road.

The first fatality to drugs I was familiar with btw in high school was a fellow student who died from taking her mother’s prescription amphetamine “diet pills”, back in ’61!

And on another “hysteria” note, while folks go nuts about “security” in Sochi, another mall shooting in the U.S., this time in Maryland. Speaking of misdirection and misplaced “fears”, and lobbying groups defending truly dangerous things, like “safe” drugs and guns…

Enoki: btw, I believe your description of the F-102’s “complexity” was also the F-106, the “upgrade” from the 102, not the 102.

Of course I liked getting support from the F-4s and 105s in ’Nam, and my son, like any sensible person, also decries the abandonment of the A-10 Warthog, our one really effective ground support aircraft, in favor of the JSF which is a piece of junk, in all versions.
