Professional athletes often pay a big price in the long term. My doctor told me about one of his patients who is a former top level Aussie Rules player (didn’t mention his name or any details.) At 45, after multiple injuries and knee surgeries during his playing days, he is almost a cripple – both knees replaced, but he is still in pain most of the time.
For those of us who were dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century and are still wary of the 21st, is there a way to nominate SJOTY other than Twitter?
For all four decades, you just can’t beat Pete Rose. He lied more often (and less convincingly) than even Lance Armstrong (or Richard Nixon…….) As for 2013, it might be Dennis Rodman, but he deserves the World’s Tallest and Drunkest Lunatic Award instead. So I’ll just go with the contemptible A-rod, whose whining crybaby impression of Cartman from “South Park” added to his dishonesty makes him the clear winner. I mean loser.
