GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT (to Scroogre):Man, if man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered what the Surplus is, and where it is. Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man’s child. Oh God, to hear the Insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust!

If the concept of a minimum wage is so great, then why not make the MW $50 or $100? Stop piddling around with this $10 stuff.

Try living on a minimum wage. In this area, it takes two people, both working full time, just to pay the rent. That doesn’t include food, clothing – or gas to GET to work. Ya got ya choice – pay a decent wage, or put it out in welfare.

I take it you are unfamiliar with the classics. Don’t worry, Duck Dynasty will still be there for you.

It’s every man for himself said the elephant as he danced among the grasshoppers. When I first started working minimum wage was $1.25 but then, a candy bar was a nickel and gold was $32/oz… The money is worth less than a tenth what it was back then but minimum wage is no where near $12.50. Most people in this country are significantly poorer than the previous generation was. Myself? I’m doing OK but I’m not delusional enough to think that a kid today can work his way through college or support a family with a single income.

Yep, there is the intelligensia of the Tea Party, folks. Someone who does not recognize the most famous work by renown English author Charles Dickens, who wrote about his times so accurately that his “Nicholas Nickelby” and “Great Expectations” forced changes in a corrupt private school system.

That’s utter nonsense. The people who live on minimum wage don’t have the high end plans. But with about $50 per month, you have internet and phone — which you NEED for most jobs these days, to find out what your schedule is (because, yes, they will change it without telling you) and to find and apply for a better one.
