I say jewelry, a nice fur coat or a trip. If you can’t afford those, maybe a nice quiet evening for just the two of you. If you choose the last one, be sure to bring along the duct tape.
When my Mom reached the hard to buy for stage, I started giving her vacations. She’d choose where she wanted to go, I’d pay for things. We made a lot of memories.
As my children are all in their 50s (daughter not quite) they do things for me now- frequent flyer miles (and sometimes cash from one, funny cards and lots of Skypes from another, the others communicate as their other things allow). We all get together at least every few years for a week, and the grandkids all get along well with each other. Too soon now to exchange gifts with my new guy, and don’t need any ;-D
