JFK wasn’t the first president to ask Americans to stop being selfish and help each other out, but he did spur a lot of people to volunteer for Peace Corps, Vista and similar programs, and he also made people less comfortable complaining about the need to feed the hungry, tend the sick and otherwise see to the good of the nation..It was a long time ago. The selfish anarchists have had a resurgence since then and helping others is now seen as a bad thing. What a shame.

Unfortunately, Reagan changed that, and the rich no longer care what they can do for their country (i.e. pay their fair share), instead dodging taxes and sending jobs and money overseas. Profits over patriotism.

Stupid cartoon. When was the last time the Republicans offered to pay for their government programs? Doing things for your country doesn’t just mean saluting the flag and bitching at people who don’t say “under God.” It can also mean not sabotaging the American system of government.

F-35, a $1.3 TRILLION “entitlement” , just like the F-22 that was a total fail at about the same cost, and all those tanks Republicans want more of, even though the Army doesn’t even need what they’ve already got! YEP, those “jobs” in the M.I.C., especially the boardrooms, and lobbyists offices, and Congress- entitlements run wild indeed! Sshhhh.. don’t mention royalty free oil leases, or others ridiculously cheap, or the 1872 mining act, or Agriculture subsidies (including profits from food stamps) going to Cargill, Archer Daniels MIdland, Monsanto, or sales at Wal Mart, Publix, and other grocery outlets.

“Entitlement” is an “odd word” indeed, like those sponges collecting VA disability payments because they “Asked not what their country could do for them, but what they could do for their country.” BTW, also had friends who went into the Peace Corps, and some of them ended up in more hazardous spots than parts of ’Nam at the time!!
