Redkaycei Repoc: Those improvements come from not doing exactly the same wrong thing over and over. I would suspect Einstein knew about practice; he was good enough on the violin to play with Arthur Rubenstein, Isaac Stern, William Primrose, and Gregor Piatagorsky, as well as a faculty chamber group at Princeton.

truecanadianliberal: Rubenstein comes from a widely quoted story that they were working on a particularly tricky sonata passage that Einstein kept messing up. Finally Rubenstein was heard saying, “Albert, can’t you count?”The others came from a memorial book by various friends after his death. A fellow faculty member kept being urged to join the faculty combo and he declined, saying he did not like the way chamber music was played. “Come anyway” Einstein said, “we will listen to your opinions.” He went and the door was opened by Stern. Einstein was playing second violin with the most famous trio of that time. There was even a propaganda story that Hitler had Einstein’s violin smashed. Not true, he took it with him when he came to join the Princeton faculty. It was his sailboat that was confiscated and given to the HitlerJungend.
