I hate that vets (and even doctors) give nutritional advice when I know I’ve studied it far more than they. Even my new (holistic) doctor has gotten some variations from me (especially as I’ve been cooking so many decades). I started doing all the family meals in 7th grade (like Gordon Ramsey’s young Masterchefs).

Stop using canned cat food, use only dry. Our 16 year old cat died last year, only had dry and treats from our plates, never had teeth problems.
