Not necessarily, it depends on the tree. I once kept a collection of Japanese maple leaves on my desk at work for several years. They remained a brilliant collection of scarlet, wine red, and flame orange.

They also hold up astonishingly well when laminated. My son left his leaf collection for school far too late to still dry and press them correctly. So I instead laminated them all. We threw it away a couple years later and they were still great to look at. He got an A.

I’m with Mimi. Love fall leaves. I also had a nice collection of dried Japanese maple leaves. Happy Day all.

Why worry about raking? Just give the child enough time and she will pick them all up and put them in the pile herself.

I have fond memories of collecting leaves and putting them inside book pages in order to preserve them.

I still love to see the fall colors. That is the only part of Midwest weather that I miss (I had a maple in the middle of back yard and there were Japanese maples in the neighbor’s so the kids and I picked up really fun assortments). Summer and winter are much better for living here in Phoenix (I prefer all seasons here).

There are no leaves changing here, but the neighbor kids who visit me told me my oranges are already tasting good (even though they mostly look pretty green) and for fall color I have the Mexican Bird of Paradise, red and orange lantanas. Pyracantha berries are still green, but I have some on west garden wall (will be bright red like holly). Even my grapefruit are starting to look good to me (I usually eat those Dec- April).

Be careful raking leaves; you might end up with piles!

Those Mimis should have all the leaves accumulated eventually.
