Even if you end up not agreeing with her philosophy of Objectivism, you will have read an exciting story and be exposed to challenging ideas with growing influence in America. And if you’re lucky, as I and many others have been, it can change your life.

Ah, pschearer, I see you regard her as the fountainhead of all wisdom. I was briefly a fan in my teens but I read Atlas Shrugged and at last shrugged it off (Yeah, Susan, I’m stealing your joke but improving it). I seriously recommend We The Living, her first novel and therefore the most honest since based in the reality of her own life in Russia.. It gives a solid picture of Russia right after the Revolution.Enough seriousness! This is a cartoon!
Ordinarily I wouldn’t get political in a non-political cartoon, but today’s subject matter lends itself to it. As Nobel Prize-winning Economist Paul Krugman says of Ayn Rand:“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
SO many misunderstandings, falsehoods, and ad hominem attacks here about Ayn Rand! I will give my usual warning: Do not believe anything anyone (yes, including me) tells you about Ayn Rand until you know enough about her to judge on you own.
(NG: I dare you to support your assertion that Objectivism requires the initiation of force. Can you cite any statement in evidence? I can say from 50 years(!!!) as an Objectivist that there is no truth whatsoever in your arbitrary claim.)
