From the time of the Barbary pirates, and that first attack on Tripoli, the U.S. has a long history of quasi-imperialism, and a “shoot first, ask questions later” bent for “diplomacy”.
T.R. said, “Walk softly, and carry a big stick.” While we’ve condemned empire, not caring for the one we were a part of until 1779, I guess we’ve just told people, “Hey, we’re just messin’ with you!” And the way we’ve forced revolutions, especially in the Middle East, we’ve been highly successful at making a mess of things.
As I recall, Obama and the media ridiculed Romney for suggesting that we may end up in Syria helping the rebels.I think we’ve all forgotten that in the six months before we went into Iraq there were members of the intelligence community on televison and radio saying that Saddam was currently moving his weapons into Syria.People can say there were no weapons all they want, but it’s clear from the communications that we intercepted that there were. Also, not all of the information that came out of Iraq has been declassified.
