Tried to watch some of Simmons’ “Def Comedy Jam” a couple years ago, guess on HBO or Cinemax; anyway, watching all the black “comedians” whose every other word was either the “N” one, or the “F” one, stopped watching as it was too disgusting. Don Rickles perfected a type of “insult comedy” that at times was also too harsh for many, but it typically aimed at indivicuals, not a whole class of people, and my question at the time was, “Why were they laughing?”
The occasional “ethnic joke” may indeed be funny, even to the group, or sometimes ESPECiALLY to that group if they recognize a class idiosyncracy, but being totally vile and offensive is, well, vile and offensive.
sorry I ran that together, dId get Rickles, and it was that he’s actually a kind-hearted guy that lets him pull it off.
There is also a difference between masters of language like Carlin, and even those good with it like Chris and Richard, and those that only have one word to work with.
