Many years ago my second wife ( who abhorred violence and feared firearms ) was awakened by an armed intruder coming into our bedroom, Call it survival instinct or divine intervention, but she manage to retrieve the .357 S&W Magnum that I kept in the nightstand and shot the guy in the kneecap. ( I’m sure she had her eyes closed ).I arrived home, shortly after the incident, I was working as a Detective with the police dept. at the time. This whack job was a three time loser with a long rap sheet and a history of rape and violence.He sued me ( from prison ) for her blowing out his kneecap. Oh yeah, the gun was loaded with hollow-points. I had ruined ( through her ) his career.It got thrown out of court but I still had attorney fees – unrecoverable because the slime ball was incarcerated.
Civil court issue. Better just to let it go. Don’t make it personal.My actions were of a lawman performing his duties…not a personal vendetta.I did not mention that at the start. Linguist knows me from another site so he knows me. Sorry for any confusion.But it does show anyone can be sued even if defending yourself.Just be sure you are in the right. Don’t go looking for the fight avoid if you can but if in a corner……make’em pay.
