Hardly a beauty that the author led us to believe. Clearly resistable. It must be the money. I wish Tarzan would end her reign so he can get back to that native peace conference he left behind ages ago. Remember that? They’re probably at war again!
I think we are about to learn Delilah’s master plan involves introducing people to pot, then leading them on to harder drugs. Maybe that’s why her staff sticks around.
Not only is that a cigarette in the ashtray in panel 2, that’s a cigarette – in a holder – in her hand in panel 1. Either that or a cheroot. Remember though that smoking in the media wasn’t the issue in the early ‘60s that it is today. Cigarette commercials featured actors in their characters enjoying a cigarette. Jed Clampett, Granny, and Miss Hathaway promoted the pleasures of smoking Winston’s in front of Jethro. Fred, and Barney and even Wilma Flintstone puffed away. Characters smoked in TV shows. In fact arguably I think our current version of media, in which the only people who smoke are villains – and even they’re cutting back – smoke is more unrealistic as a reflection of society than what we saw in the 1960s. And I’m a lifelong non-smoker.
