Nagging and/or spying rarely accomplish the desired result; usually the opposite, in fact.

I’m Canadian, in fact I think I grew up not far from where Lynn was working at the time. And I don’t think I’ve ever heard the phrase ‘taking a few strides’ before.

I don’t know about “taking a few strides” but when I was a kid in the 60’s we called everybody “man.” It was just a word you threw in the way kids today say “like.”

This is a funny series, but quitting smoking is only hard for people who MAKE it hard. I woke up one morning 30 years ago and didn’t want to smoke any more. I was a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days, but that was it. I haven’t smoked, nor wanted to, for 30 years.

I don’t know about the “wanting to” part. My mom really wanted to quit for years, but it was so hard for her to quit. Other than the nicotine part that is hard to kick, I think she has one of those addictive personalities that’s hard for her to give up habits. My husband was able to easily give up smoking with hardly any effort at all, and he only gave it up because it was such a pain to smoke in the US when he moved here. Obviously he could have continued smoking if he “wanted to” because there are places to smoke with a little effort.

What quitting smokers who “cheat” don’t understand is that the odor clings to their clothes and breath. They don’t fool anyone except themselves.

Ray Thomas: How unfair and judgmental can you get? Just because you and a few others had a relatively easy time quitting doesn’t mean those who don’t are deliberately making it harder for themselves. I have known people who quit cold turkey with almost no problem at all and people who have struggled for years trying to overcome what is, after all, a physical addiction.

In the end Georgia can’t do anything. It’s up to Phil to quit.

Selfish sod. He’s a whiney manchild. Never cared about the smoke he puffed into the air. Around kids too
