why call her names……………….. she is just a mom that is very unorganized, just like most of us moms were at one time or another. I had 3 kids to get up, dressed, fed, teeth brushed, books and homework gathered, shoes on, lunch bags and out the door BEFORE I got dressed for work, so I can totally relate to her. Mine are all grown now and doing this routine with my grandchildren and I just stand back and laugh.
Mornings are hard for everyone. And some kids just bounce out of bed and get ready in 20 minutes. Mine need a good hour and they’d still like to read at breakfast longer.
I don’t see anything _____y about the way Ellie’s talking to the kids. Before I “retired” from get-‘em-up duty and stayed downstairs till after they had left, I found that the grandkids could be maddening. If they got up without a depth charge, they moved like molasses, did things at the last moment, forgot things, remembered intricate things they needed to take to school (but hadn’t done yet), etc. Finally we had the youngest one sleep with her school clothes on, so we wouldn’t have to fight them onto her in the morning.
Susan, we all understand that you had a rough childhood. That does not mean that every mom on the planet is a b***h. Especially not a well-meaning comic strip character.
I had five kids to get out to the bus stop, which is 2-1/2 miles from the house. For awhile, one was in high school, two in middle, two in elementary. Mornings would have been worse had it not been for assigning certain chores to each one to help get us all out the door. We still frequently missed the bus, however, and I’d have to take them all to school, which is 5-1/2 miles from our home. There were times I felt like camping out at the bus stop when they were getting home, as there were three different drop-off times. Frantic? Yes. But we made it, and all five are doing extremely well in their professions!
