Billions to be spent on border security when the simplest solution was proposed by the Reagan presidency. Arrest and punish companies, managers, and CEOs who hire people who are not in the country legally. This should include those who hire lawn workers, housekeepers, and nanny’s (as some of our elected officials have) as well.If there is no money to be made in the USA, people will not risk their lives trying to get here. It was a good idea that both parties set aside at the request of their political donors from agriculture and other industries. How are you going to stop the people who come in by boat? Then there’s the R congressman who says we need border agents in the states that don’t have borders with other countries, in order to help the Immigration police. We have no money to spend on bridges, power grids, cyber security, education, and healthcare… but we can turn the USA into a police state. This is not the way a civil and respectful people should behave.Respectfully,C.

Well said, Nantucket! The fact that the two parties have failed to levy fines that change behaviors is evidence of the hand in glove relationship between monied donors and our the cannibalistic oligarchy leading in DC. Perhaps Congress is keeping the economy suppressed in order to encourage more “self deportation”?Congress needs to levy fines that make it disastrous for all businesses for which it has committess and oversight. Fines should not be a cost of doing business.@ NeoConMan – I was under the impression Mr. Reagan was no longer president by the time the agriculture and other immigrant dependent business lobbies got the law changed. Around the same time the NAFTA treaty was altered to allow Mexican/Canadian made cars/trucks to be sold in the USA, cutting the throat of Detroit and other cities/industries.I could be wrong.Respectfully,C.

Given the actual trend and numbers, building more idiotic fence might just keep folks from leaving the U.S. and going back home! Of course the Chinese and other highly educated folks coming here are getting work visas, and our jobs, but they can go back and forth on airplanes, not worry about fences.
