Like insurance, MDs started charging way more, because the insurance would pay; colleges started charging way more when the government started handing out student loans.
I paid my way through school in the early 1960’s with a part time job and working full time in summer. Had to live at home though. But, I did graduate debt free. Can’t do that today. Too much greed to overcome.

My tuition was $75 a semester. Major state university. 1952 and 53. Then it was jacked all the way to $90.
