In the 1930’s a “southern Democrat,” but he later became a “Dixiecrat,” and then finally a Republican.The Democrats were glad to be rid of him (and his old racist Southern ways) and the GOP welcomed him with open arms.Don’t be so blind as to compare the old parties to the parties as they stand today. Gore got almost 1/2 a million more votes.But if Bush “won” because of the Electoral College, then by that same argument OJ Simpson didn’t kill those 2 people because the jury found him innocent.If you believe one, then you must believe the other.I believe neither; I think it’s ridiculous for a man to lose the Presidency because of the outdated Electoral College (it’s been unnecessary and arcane since the telegraph wires crossed the country), and I think it’s foolish to presume OJ’s innocence in spite of what the jury decided.
