Fair enough. Let’s say Martin managed to turn the gun around before the trigger was pulled and Zimmerman had been killed with his own gun, with only Martin’s testimony about what happened. Who comes out the bad guy then? Who would the press favor, or the court system? Would Zimmerman be a concerned citizen who got killed defending his neighborhood, or would you accept Trayvon’s testimony about him following him around with a gun? These are genuine questions, not partisan accusations. With no third party witnesses, we only have the testimony of the survivor as to what really happened. Would Trayvon have had the same supporters Zimmerman had, or would the public still be divided along the same lines?
The reality is, with the law as written, this was the only possible outcome. There was no way they could get beyond a reasonable doubt against the parameters of “Stand Your Ground”. If the jury had come back guilty, the judge would have set aside the verdict.
The problem isn’t the verdict, it’s the law itself. There is no logical reason someone who stalked and attacked another person should be able to claim self defense, but the law allows it. The law needs to be struck down, plain and simple.
Justice should be ashamed after the tactics that the justice department and the prosecution used. the prosecution attempted to hide and destroy evidence. The justice department used our taxpayer dollars to help organize trayvon rallies before the trial even began.
Actually race did have something to do with it..What Zimmerman did (until the shooting) was a festival of stupidity and unfortunately being stupid is not illegal.
Zimmerman is probably not done with the law — he also has had other incidents including a domestic violence charge and one for shoving an officer. This time it was just a second class citizen he killed, he will eventually aim his gun at somebody that America cares about.

Somehow I don’t think that’s the look young Trayvon had on his face that night.

And Martin beating him up, see photos, has no meaning. In your society one may ruthlessly beat another up with no consequences.
