Mr. Pett’s cartoon is exquisite. It almost encompasses nearly every abuse our cannibalistic two party oligarchy commits in their effort to maintain their job security in congress while building up their ‘resume’ for the lobbying and/or corporate jobs they will take after they leave office. Jobs whose pay will be supplemented with the very generous ‘pension’ and healthcare benefits Congress has given itself for even after they leave office. The cartoon shows the disrespectful and uncivil bullies these two parties have become as they divide and weaken our nation (as per Geo Washington’s warning). Until Americans quit allowing themselves to be distracted by the fear tactics and impossible social issues, we will not be able to elect people who will keep the bridges, power grids, and other important (and costly) matters to which our nation MUST give attention.Respectfully,C.
Climate Change, Global Warming, Nuclear Proliferation, and Overpopulation might be combining to form a Reset Button. Maybe another species will emerge and do better than the primates have done.
“Support Term Limits”We already have term limits, but we call it voting. The problem is the electorate as a whole doesn’t care enough to pay attention or to get its collective fat @#$ off the sofa long enough to vote. I work with people who are proud of the fact they’ve never in their lives voted. One particular cow-orker can’t even name the current VP, or his predecessor. The reason the government got this dysfunctional is the people stopped caring and stopped voting ages ago.
Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. Both parties are equally guilty of every offense depicted. Perhaps the Republicans invented the security state, but “our” guy (and his party) are following in their footsteps.
In places where term limits have been tried, they’ve failed as most predicted they would. The only ones who know how government operates are lobbyists. Everyone else is an amateur. What we REALLY need is to get money out of politics with public funding of elections and ANY contributions to politicians treated as the bribery that it is.
