Once upon a time, it was common to see street performance teams that consisted of a musician playing while a monkey danced; there would usually be an upturned hat or some other container for people to drop money in if they liked the performance.[]The cartoon is, thus, accusing Governor Brown of putting on a show in order to trick people into giving the SEIU more money.
I have friends that live in various parts of the country and read these stories and then often ask me to give them more detail, or sometimes teasingly torment me with “what were you all thinking when???” Sometimes trying to explain the inane actions of the “SUPER-MAJORITY” can be frustrating. An example of California’s typical ineptness shows in a quote from the article Michael wme posted.
“More than $30 billion over the next seven years will go to the service of a debt that wasn’t disclosed before the voters were asked to approve the tax increase,” predicted former CalSTRS board member David Crane in a recent Bloomberg editorial. Crane was reportedly ousted from the board about a decade ago for warning that the system’s growth forecasts were too rosy and that a large shortfall loomed." We can’t have those kind of evil people being rational and logical about the abysmal state of our economics.
Thank you all! Reading all your comments validates my decision to leave California in 1978. I saw the Light in the Tunnel and ID’d it as a impending train wreck.

This cartoon directly and clearly addresses the bait and switch pulled by Gov. Brown. That’s how it really is.
