An honorable and lawful gov’t who puts law above “ends justifying means” could be trusted with this metadata. I have the privilege of knowing honorable people. None of them are in elected office. A gov’t like ours, which has become an oligarchy led by the elites within the two parties, cannot be trusted, over time, to not abuse the pool of information contained within the data collected. I do not know if abuses have occurred, I suspect they have, but I strongly believe that abuses will occur in a more blatant and aggressive manner over the next few years. ^It is up to us, the electorate, to find people willing to serve not only the word of law, but the spirit in which these laws were conceived. Civil and respectful minds willing to talk, negotiate, and compromise for the betterment of all Americans, and through helping America, the world.Respectfully,C.
Humph. i was born at the height of the McCarthy era, essentially into a Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt-driven police state. At the current rate of momentum it appears I may be dying in a similar (or worse) police state.
True, but the traitors who designed it share equal blame (Bush, Cheney, and EVERY senator and representative who initially signed it into law). Obama owns it now, but stop denying it was a Republican President who initially signed it and re-signed it.
(And let me remind every American who ISN’T grateful that Obama has the contents of every one of their e-mails.)"I just bcc ‘BigBamasWatchingYou@whitehouse.gov’ on all my emails.

Just some more of those “phantoms of lost liberty” Ashcroft was so dismissive about.
