some of my deepest memories of school were formed in the cafeteria… we didn’t have “mystery meat” but we did have “rainbow meat” , so called because it seemed to have bands of different colors running through it. and also “Creechville Round Steak” which was steamed slices of bologna.

The cafeteria food was never bad at the schools I went to. In High School, we even had a “pizza line”, where we could get things like pizza or cheese sticks every day.

In one of my favorites a guy was scooping “food” out if a cauldron and missed the guy’s plate. He yelled “Pick it up!” but the other guy said “Too late, it’s gone!” I labelled that with the name of our college food company and tacked it up on the bulletin board outside the cafeteria, and I heard they were asking around to find out who had done it. They were really awful, and the next year they were gone.

I don’t want to hear it from any of you unless YOUR food service killed somebody.

Did that kid in front skip grades, or is he just really short?
