I wish they’d dispense with the tradition of interrupting the story with holiday wishes every time there’s a big holiday. I’m not interested in being wished a happy 4th of July. I’m interested in knowing what’s going on with the story.
Take a moment to pause and reflect on the country we live in, whose birthday we’re celebrating today. Remember that this country was founded so its citizens can enjoy the freedom and liberty to be what we can be. The freedom from those who seek to rob us of such opportunities, be they tyrannical kings, terrorists on a mission for their “God”, or the self-centered criminals Tracy has hunted down. This is what the break today is to remind us.
Happy Fourth of July all, and we’ll see you tomorrow. After all, Joe and Mike may take a day off from the story, but we know crime doesn’t!

Happy Fourth of July! A few of us were kidding around yesterday about Mysta in the movies. But as well as this story is going and as nostalgic of a character as Moon Maid is, I hope she really does make an appearance if they ever get around to making another Dick Tracy movie. Since it’s a slow day here, who are some current actresses/performers that might make a great Moon Maid on the big screen??
Notwithstanding the obvious color value of fireworks, the B&W version is gorgeous today. I always look at that before the colorized version here. Before I even got here, I knew there would be some cranky comments about this not being a continuation of the story. Chill and enjoy the holiday.
Actually , Warren Beatty (Who still owns the movie rights) is trying to get a new DT movie deal going… They can call it “Dick Tracy solves the case of the bad food at the old folks home” At least Beatty is close to being Tracy’s ACTUAL age!
I don’t know who she is, or whether she can act, but, this woman would be the perfect Sparkle, she even has the pouting lower lip and that cute little mouth that curls up at the ends!
If we are going to talk about a Dick Tracy movie, I’ll through in my 2 cents. SQUARE NOSE and SQUARE JAW this time around please! It’s 2013… I want Tracy to sport his very distinct facial features this go round. Also it would be perfect for a silhouetted profile scene!
A pleasant 4th of July Independence Day celebration to one and all, even the grumpy ones!(But, just to prove I’m not perfect: has the colorist never seen an American flag, with its red and white, not red, white, and black, stripes?)
The black or the flags is probably meant to symbolize red in the monochrome version. The appearance of red, white and black is a bit of a compromise but there’s not much the colourist can do about that.
