The way Memorial Day is observed misses the point largely: sales and picnics. I’ve never understood the connection between those activities and decoration of graves with flowers and flying the flag in honor of those who died for our freedom and @ConserveGov’s right to express snarky, vulgar observations about people who don’t share his political point of view.

Hello ConGov, for me, the cartoon reminded me of the Westboro Baptist Church people who go to military funerals and yell horrible things.^IMO, Mr. Rogers isn’t commenting on the number of sexual assaults in the military. His cartoon seems to warn us that the failure of the military to resolve this issue is creating this attitude towards the military. An officer and a sergeant tasked with investigating and preventing sexual abuse were themselves charged with abuse. It is a valid warning.^@ Peabody-Martini – I believe you are misinterpreting ConGov, just as I think he saw Mr. Roger’s cartoon through a different lens. I could be wrong, but despite our frequent disagreements on issues, he is a good man and not as much of an ass as some commentators in GC.Me, for instance. Well, at least you understand my fairly simple point, unlike Mr Pee-body. It’s the same as going to your fathers funeral and saying “He was a good man who worked hard to provide for his family without raping his wife or molesting his kids”. As if that was in question.But in this case Rogers singles out our soldiers to basically say that mostly all of them sexually assault women, but in this case we must point out that he was not one of them.That’s a huge, disgusting brush he’s using to paint our troops.

I agree with ConserveGov; this cartoon would be more correct if the problem was more rampant. But, it’s a cartoon, and cartoonists (and pundits and comedians) often exaggerate to make a point.
