It wasn’t a genuine lightsaber, because there is no such thing. What was aboard the Discovery was a genuine prop from Star Wars.

How much did it cost the taxpayers to send that light sabre up, instead of using the fuel for something more useful? IIRC I believe it takes about 500 lbs. of fuel to put 1 lb in orbit.
