The point of regulations is to prevent this from happening. While I am glad the building’s owner is arrested and bribed officials may soon join him, if there had been effective regulation enforcement in place beforehand, maybe over 400 people would be alive today.
Oh, and where are they going? Those conservative lands of golden opportunity Alabama, Mississippi, Texas (home of the cannon fertilizer fodder?) Is Louisiana leading us out of the Recession?
The great right wind (g) mirage. The Ayn Randian Utopian delusion. That mythical place that all Neo Con, Tea Party, if I only had a brain, blame the other guy whiners long to migrate to. Maybe the Grand Wizards of Oz (rush, Billo, Glen, etc.) will show them the way. Then all these rugged individualists, who subsist on social security and Medicare in their reclining years will be happy.
Unregulated capitalism will tend to produce these disasters — but to be fair, the so-called communist countries have been as bad or worse. Maybe it has something to do with unregulated power.
Absolutely. I am making the point that the far right has a tendency to fantasize about a place and time that never was and given the qualities of human nature will never be. (We want “our” country back) Like you had sole ownership of it. I haven’t seen one positive/constructive suggestion come out of their comments here yet. Just a lot of name calling and negativity. We all have a right to our opinion but when it is laced with a hefty amount of hypocrisy (compassionate conservatism) it gets a little hard to take without responding. You are the one that wandered off subject just to take a shot at any politics that don’t agree with your own.
Seriously? Ever listen to Rush, the rights suppossed vocal leader..all he does is name call and lie. I do nothing but post facts on these comment boards. If I have done otherwise show me. By the way I am a liberal.
Interesting paths the comments are taking today. The cartoon reminds me of outsourcing. Whether through building a factory over seas and selling the products made in the USA, or through the H1B program where people bring “immigrants” to the US to train and send back to overseas factories, outsourcing hurts our neighbors, and us. We save money on products we buy, but at the cost of paying unemployment wages and other services for the unemployed and underemployed.Sadly, the people in that area are so poor and so desperate for work, they can’t wait for the factory to reopen. Hopefully they won’t be dying to go back to work. I hope the punishment the owner receives is a deterrent to his competitors acting the same way… but I sadly doubt it.Respectfully,C.
Even Politifact is now saying that Ohman was wrong when he did his now-infamous comic: http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2013/may/01/jack-ohman/california-editorial-cartoonist-says-state-texas-l/[]The real truth is that what happened was a failure of a large patchwork of regulations consisting of local, county, state, and even federal regulatory bodies who had jurisdiction over parts of the facility but not the facility as a whole.
Real Truth? Now that’s amusing. What is real truth as opposed to common or regular truth other than an opinionated viewpoint or perspective. Sorry boys, I’m smack-dab in the middle. Liberals call me a Tea-Partier and Republicans call me a Demon-crat. Go figger!
