hahah @husky51 I had the same experience with a cat who had an abscess on his ear. I put him in a pillow case, wrapped a towel around the pillow case, wrapped a blanket around that, and held him down with my leg. I still got the crap scratched out of me.

My 18 year old cat, Mud, has finally taken well to getting her talons hacked. We tried the towel, but that ended up in a whole bunch of snags that would make Peekaboo (“Rose is Rose”) look like an amateur. Now, I hold her while someone else clips her nails. Funny part, she will twist around and shove her head into my armpit so she does not have to look at what’s going one, all the while mewing pitifully (“Mom, I know you are not trying to hurt me, I know it will be over soon, I still don’t like it.”). Extra kitty treats and 15 minutes with the slicker brush (she loves being groomed) and all is over and forgiven. Until the next time.

At this point it’s time to show buiscuit who her masters and owners!!!! No food and no water until biscuit cooperates should do the trick, as well as an electric shock training collar!!

Flip the dog upside down, become the alpha, seems to help with my pooch. She goes limp after about 3 seconds of on my lap tummy to the air. I can shave her paws (she’s a poodle) clip nails, and brush her so much better.

I used to wrap my pooch in a towel, and it worked.

We had a dog that had to be taken to the vet to have nails and teeth done! Once a year, she’d spend the night so that the vet could put her to sleep! She was such a good dog, otherwise.

UncaJim, don’t blame the dog. Blame the greedy over breeding or the owners. Working for a Boxer rescue, I’ve seen pretty much all. I saw a poor boxer/pit that was so traumatized that she would snarl and try and bite when we got near. Found out the idiot “owner” used something home made that resembled a cattle-prod to (and I quote) make her more of a watch dog! Many people SUCK!

My daughter looked on line to see how to train her dogs. The female little harder my daughter became her owner when she was 2-years-old. She then became owner of a male from a legal age of a puppy. She trims both their nails. They both get to go for walks. Both dogs are Golden Retrivers. The female is more red color people confuse her as Irish Setter.

Some of the comments make me sick. It is not necessary to shock or mistreat animals to be in charge. I have retrained animals with real serious biting and scratching problems with firm kindness. It works! It sounds like the real training to be a responsible pet owner should start with training people in compassion and kindness. Incidentally, I don’t believe letting animals run wild or biting people is kind. Either to the biter or the bitee. As my Dad would say, “You’ve got to be smarter than the dog.” He never hurt a dog in his life!

We are lucky. Our Australian cattle dog is quite cooperative with nail trims and baths! I trim nails on the bed. She will jump up there and roll over. You can tell she doesn’t like it, but she doesn’t fuss about it. She knows she will get a treat afterwards! For baths, she will jump right in the tub and stay there until you are done.
