America land of continuously advancing freedom. Congrats! We're awesome! Merely half a century after Stonewall, the struggle for equality is somewhat partly resolved- about one issue-in some states. Sure, the government didn't give a damn about AIDS or Matthew Shepard... but it's all better now. Where two dudes or ladies can get married

It’s not all better, but it’s better. Keep an eye out for the drones, though. They seem to make a habit of crashing weddings.

The Barry Fans in he media don’t want you to see all those “other things” that are actually inflicting real pain to most Americans. Just keep them in the background like this toon.

“The Barry Fans in he media don’t want you to see all those “other things” that are actually inflicting real pain to most Americans.”And the Republican plan to solve anything? More tax breaks for the wealthiest! It hasn’t worked for 12 years, but maybe if we give them even more…..

Wow them with circuses and gay marriage while the country goes down. Nothing to see here, move along. Every thing is going just fine (if you’re a Wall Street bankster).

What a buzzkill, Rall. One small ray of sunshine in the middle of all the b*llsh*t coming out of Washington. How about some more drone cartoons?

Virginia also added an amendment to its constitution that specifically denied recognition of civil unions, marriages, or other alternatives for gay couples. If they move to Virginia, all your communal rights are automatically denied.
To my knowledge, this is the first time a constitutional amendment has been used to specifically REMOVE rights from citizens.
(Usually, they’re just incredibly stupid, like the one we added to say that “Hunting and Fishing are American Traditions”. Can’t wait to see which bumper sticker we will next want to add to the Constitution….)

The civil government has cared about AIDS. In 2005, “According to the FAIR Foundation, NIH research money budgeted per death is $162,790 for AIDS versus $10,245 for Alzheimer’s,” despite over 4.5 million Americans having Alzheimer’s compared to less than 400 thousand with AIDS. The discrepancy favoring aids research has increased since then despite Alzheimer’s increasing at a far faster rate than AIDS.

Ima: What fantasy world do you live in? Or have you not been following the DOMA arguments before the Supreme Court? THAT’S what this is about, the unfair treatment of one married couple over another. The plaintiff, married in Canada, and recognized by New York, was nevertheless hit with an estate tax of over $300,000. “Legally” married doesn’t mean a damn thing until it’s legal for all. BTW: If it’s against your RELIGION, don’t do it! And why do preachers say “By the power invested in me…” if it’s ONLY a religious ceremony?

Prior to any type of “gay marriage” I knew a couple who had lived together for years, and were in each others’ wills. When one died, his family, who had NEVER been involved once he declared gay, got the courts to declare that, since the survivor wasn’t a blood/married relation, that the will was invalid, and scooped in and took all the deceased monetary accounts and insurance payouts.

25 years ago try finding a lawyer to handle that. It was hard enough to get common-law couples to overcome those road blocks, let along gays.
