Honestly, this is probably based on multiple true incidents. My poor daughter worked in retail for several years, and you would not believe how rude, stupid and angry customers can be, along with really dumb managers who never support their employees.
My favorite experience working at a produce store was when a woman would come in to exchange a gallon of milk that was half gone because it had gone bad. I could see if she was a single mother on welfare, but this lady had more money than she knew what to do with, and the manager let it slide to prevent her from going elsewhere. She did this probably every 2-3 months or so.
