    Slim is a lot like young Walt back in the early days of the strip. He gets in trouble a lot. However the young Walt did think more. He did manage to think and get himself out of trouble most of the time. That’s the difference.

    Much older telephones than that still work. And it isn’t all that old, either; it looks like a 302, which was still being sold in refurbs into the late 50s. (And its actual innards continued to be sold into the late 60s, although in newer plastic housings.) Heck, the house we built in 1954 had a 202, which was an even older model. AT&T and Western Electric designed their equipment to last a lifetime.
