Henry, it’s funny how you are trying to blame Obama for this disaster. It’s from the Republican party and their inability to compromise. And the GOP is run by the radical rich, so the millionaires are orchestrating this to avoid paying for the $1T war that GW Bush started.

News Flash! The rest of the world is tired of lending money to a profligate U.S.A. One in every three dollars the U.S. government spends is borrowed money. That’s not sustainable.

I don’t know why people think the sequester is funny. In my community, workers are having to take one day off a week with no pay due to the sequester. A 20% paycut for the majority of folks is devastating. It will plung our local economy into the dumper.How is that funny?

The funding for WIC is being drastically reduced. I don’t see anything particularly gleeful about hungry children. The GOP is the party of comforting the comfortable, and afflicting the afflicted. And to think some of them call themselves Christian!

The leaders and other powerful members of both parties in the House and Senate, and Obama, know that our current way of taxing and spending is not sustainable. They also know that supporting severe spending cuts is political suicide. *So now “the sequester” is the bad guy doing their dirty work. And everyone on both sides distances themselves.*What a bunch of cowards and opportunists.

Theo, it is true that the Democrats have to agree to spending cuts. But they shouldn’t be the ones to SUGGEST them. The GOP ran on a platform of cutting spending and got their butts handed to them. And the new GOP House has not proposed anything new since then. Why? Some news reports suggest that they can’t even get consensus among themselves.*So why should the Democrats stick their necks out and take the blame for cuts the Republicans demand?*Remember the “Etch-a-Sketch” shake that Romney and Ryan did a few months ago? Both sides had proposed cutting $716 billion from Medicare. Then Romney/Ryan reversed their position and accused Obama of cutting Medicare.*Don’t think they would do it again?

I’ve written enough on this topic today. I’ll note that two sinkholes DID open up. The rest is a bipartisan fiasco and the people who want to say the other side is responsible are simply ignoring a large body of facts. The degree to which one side is MORE responsible than the other is more nuanced, but no ONE party or ONE branch of gov’t is at fault. They ALL built this.And Payne is right to point out that Mr. Obama made it sound as if on March 1st all hell would break loose. He could have given the same message in a more realisitic manner, but his effort to force R’s to take action just made him look alarmist. My wife and neighbor got their furlough notices today. She’s looking forward to it, he’s looking at 50 ships on which work has already stopped. Workers are securing these minesweepers until funding can be regained.
