I’m surprised that Verl even does crossword puzzles. I would have thought that the inevitable mess resulting from her wrong answers would have long ago convinced her that only stupid people must make them up.
Miss Scarlet…. I think she must be the one who always left her morning paper on my bus to work…
I didn’t like to buy a fresh one and waste all that paper, when you could always find sections to read, and leave for the next person….
I used to hope there’d be ONE puzzle left for me…. but no….
Every one was mostly blank, but scribbled and ruined. Almost none of the entries were ever correct….and it was always in ink.
And I’d be embarrassed, too, that someone might see me leave it there and think I did it!
Guess Verl will never “strikeout” on yhat puzzle.
I guess “an idiot” won’t work either; that’s just seven letters. Of course that fits Joy perfectly since she’s always one short of any reference.

I’m afraid if Jer would kiss Verl she wouldn’t be alive for long from the shock of the excitement.
Behind every door is a brain……hmmmm Well it doesn’t say weather it’s a working brain or not ,which is what theirs is.And yea “Nit & Wit” fits them
