The problem isn’t that the climate is slowly warming. The problem is that people are burning the planet’s resources, causing a RAPID rise in average temperature. The extra heat that huams are creating means that we are- no, we have caused an artificially rapid change in climate, and we are going to see our coastal cities under water within my children’s lifetimes. The effect we are continuing to create is going to make life impossible for ourselves. We are killing our own species with our behaviour.
Many, many years ago, my fourth grade teacher taught us the difference as: “Weather: Do you NEED a raincoat?” and “Climate: Do you even OWN a raincoat?”
Now, here in Florida, Wal*Mart sells sunscreen SPF4 next to the sweatshirts (I scraped ice off my windshield this morning with my work ID card – too lazy to look for the ice scraper I got as a Christmas present three years ago (when I noticed I really should have one more and more mornings).
