It does promise jobs and prosperity… but at what cost? Check out the movie “Gasland”.

It apparently can be done fairly safely, but so far, no regulations due to industry opposition. So you have no idea whether the guys who win the bid for the drilling permit are going to do it safely, or permanently destroy an aquifer while getting out a few hours worth of natural gas.

Yes, let us inject as much fear and misinformation into this as we can, then we can further condemn the country to jobs lost and buying energy from those that hate us. It is not to deny “green” technology, but there is no way that industry could currently even handle a small percentage of our energy needs.

“Fracking” has been done for decades. The “proprietary” refusal to disclose fomrulas is a serious problem that shouldn’t be, because it shouldn’t be proporietary, but open information.

In some places, the process CAN be done reasonably, and safely. The problem is, the industry has more recently been irresponsible, dangerous, and lying.

BP has displayed the real “ethcis” of the industry on several occassions, and the more recent fines they tell the public are just ’our investment in the Gulf", pretty well sum it up.

Yep. And the drills, drilling fluids, natural gas, and pipe magically don’t go through the water table as they pass between the deep wells and the surface. (Wow, I knew conservatives had given up on biology, geology, atmospheric science, and arithmetic; now even simple GEOMETRY?)

America has been on a Moore’s Law curve for solar power for around 30 plus years and is finally starting to move around the knee of the curve. In another ten years solar will provide the bulk of America’s energy needs. In the meantime I think it is better to be self sufficient that support a bunch of despotic extractive states in the middle east so screw the nimbys.
