It does promise jobs and prosperity… but at what cost? Check out the movie “Gasland”.

The country can frack itself or go green.
.
I think we are fracked.

“Frack You, America! There are obscene profits to be made!”

It apparently can be done fairly safely, but so far, no regulations due to industry opposition. So you have no idea whether the guys who win the bid for the drilling permit are going to do it safely, or permanently destroy an aquifer while getting out a few hours worth of natural gas.

@ARodney
Actually industry track records do give us an idea of how this will likely go.

Yes, let us inject as much fear and misinformation into this as we can, then we can further condemn the country to jobs lost and buying energy from those that hate us. It is not to deny “green” technology, but there is no way that industry could currently even handle a small percentage of our energy needs.

The very moment the frackers tell the public what is REALLY in the stuff the pump down I consider to change my opinion on this issue. Until then I watch “Erin Brockovich” until my eyes bleed…

@mickey1339
As has been said before, conservation is a simple method to deter our need for foreign energy.

Gasland and FrackNation represent opposing ideas of what happens where fracking is used. Likely there is some truth in both but to blindly accept either as the only “truth” is short sighted at best. To error on the side of caution is a wise move when talking about the potential development of long term health problems. Too often we’ve observed the oops approach, putting profit ahead of safety.
