I think some of these cartoonists are losing their grip on reality. If he is an “innocent non-combatant” why is he wearing a shooting vest? Or is this Rall’s attempt at sarcasm? Maybe I’m missing the obvious. That can always happen.
Ted’s been over to Afghanistan. Afghan traditional male dress is usually with a coat-like vest ; perhaps not so much a shooting vest but a more practical version of the traditional garb. Or it’s a shooting vest. Don’t Afghans hunt, too?
It’s about time we officially acknowledged and recognized females in combat roles and that we have had them since the first Gulf War in the early-1990s.
It’s also time that we open up those MOS’s officially to women so that they can serve and even get shot at just like their male counterparts.
At the same time, women between the ages of 18 and 26 need to sign up for Selective Service just like their male counterparts do and be subject to the same restrictions, like not being able to get a student loan or other government financial assistance when it comes to paying for a college education.
And when there is a draft and people need to be conscripted into the military, there are just as many females drafted as there are males unless the population does not support that and in that case, the people drafted represent the same proportion of the people in the general population considering that there are more American females living these days than males, I would expect more females to be drafted than males.
And once this barrier is torn down, there will be no need for “chivalry” and no justification for gender discrimination, be it on pay or even the “glass ceiling”.
Hopefully, there are enough females out there that can meet or exceed the same physical requirements for these MOS’s that their male counterparts must go through in order to qualify for these positions—which means that there should not be any different requirements for females in the military like there are today, “Molly” must go through the same training, wear the same uniform, and even meet the same requirements, both physical and mental, that “Joe” and “Willy” have to meet for these MOS’s.
Which means that “Molly” must do the same push-ups that “Joe” and “Willy” do and do the same number needed to qualify for their physical fitness.
This should also mean that there be no special uniform for females in the Military, either. No special hats—even the “Campaign Hats” that the Female Cadre in Basic Training components wear, no skirts or dresses or no special tailoring to accentuate the female form.
Even "Molly"’s hair has to be treated to the same requirements that "Joe"’s and "Willy"’s hair must meet while in service, including the Basic Training haircut and the 2" requirement during the rest of Army Service and if “Joe” or “Willy” does not wear makeup, neither should “Molly”.
Not only does “Molly” have to act the part that “Joe” and “Willy” do, she has to look the part, too.
You’re kidding me, right?‘Afghanistan is a mostly arid, desolate land the size of Texas.’I have no idea what size Texas is for comparison purposes but I’ll take France instead. 650 thousand sqkms. And I’ll ignore “mostly arid, desolate”. You should read/watch National Geographic more‘It has 30+ MILLION people. For what and for how long would the Afghan population hunt?’It has about 35 million people. The USA has 310 million people. Not all of you hunt, I take it? I wouldn’t assume that all Afghans hunt either, so I don’t quite understand your bringing up their population figure…Hunting for sport still goes on in Afghanistan, not as much as before but if I recall correctly, Afghanistan was a hunting paradise for the very rich not too long ago. Their animals’ numbers are down and shouldn’t be hunted until they reach safer numbers though. The ibex is still around, they have gazelle, mountain goats, snow leopards (terribly endangered), Marco Polo sheep (nah, they’re wild), wolves, bears…National Geographic, great magazine, read them.

Even better news, more and more Islamic people (even the more moderate ones) will hate us even more! What a recruiting poster for Al Queda!!

“So innocent people wouldn’t possibly need to carry weapons for self-defense? Is that what you’re saying here?”
Your assumption, not my comment or intention.

One of my favorite movie quotes: (From "Aliens, I think)
Male marine to female marine: “Lopez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?”
Female marine: “No, have you?”

The criticism isn’t of morality of women on front line, but of the fact that the little moral victory barely compensates for the USA’s actions abroad
