If back in 1963 (when I was 11) when both we and the Russians were setting new space exploration milestones almost every day, someone told me that in 50 years manned space flight would have gone no farther than the moon and that we hadn’t even been back to the moon for almost 40 years, I would have said they were crazy. (sigh)

I remember when Orwell’s “1984” was in the far distant future. (The “2001: A Space Odyssey” sequel was called “2010”. Recent history.)

2001 is a tough history especially at 9/11.

What about Robert A Heinlien’s “Door Into Summer”? 1972 was a generation away at time the story started.

I caught someone the other day using the phrase “around the turn of the century” and meaning 1900 instead of 2000. Couldn’t let that one pass. Just ‘cause we’re old doesn’t mean we get to forget that another whole century turned. And no, I’m not trying to start an argument about calendrics and whether the century rolled over in 2000 or 2001.

First – Please go to Facebook and look up Col. Chris Hadfield. He is on the ISS right now and is sending daily photos . You can get them on your Facebook news feed..I don`t know which is better – Col. Hadfield being Canadian or his joy in sharing Earth and Space. .Hal can`t open the pod bay door. Sorry Dave. He is busy singing Daisy, Daisy.
