I predict that Obama, Reid & Pelosi are doing the same old, same old, Democrat trickery that gave Reagan and Bush the Elder and now the GOP House the old “promise them spending cuts for tax hikes, and later renege on the spending cuts”….Obama has stated (Sunday 12/30/12, NBC Meet/Press)that “I cut spending by Over a trillion dollars in 2011” although the Exec.Branch Office of Management & Budget “says that fed spending increased by $147 Billion from fiscal 2010 to fiscal 2011.” IMO Obama lied.-OMB numbers= fiscal 2010 Obama spent $3,456,213,000and increased spending to $3,603,213,000 in fiscal 2011.my source= http://cnsnews.comif you disagree, go argue with the OMB.
I, too, wish that Obama were less willing to concede points to the Republicans, but if we remember that politics is the art of the possible, he hasn’t done too badly overall. This current deal is certainly not a liberals dream, but it’s better than not having a deal. If the House Republicans turn it down, they will look pretty bad. For my conservative friends — I’m happy to talk about cuts in spending, but I would like to see specific suggestions, with some analysis of who gets hurt.

That’s an admirable sentiment and there have been all sorts of “amnesty” proposals to repatriate American monies and jobs back to here. The issue is one Steve Jobs told to Obama a couple of years ago. He said he would never move production of Apple products back to the U.S. because we cannot match the quality of production at the cost that Foxtron (the Chinese) charge. Now Tim Cooke has given a placating comment to O’s administration that they are going to move the Mac computer back here. It is the least of their profit machines and has been declining in sales for years, so it’s no big sacrifice.*The real issue is wage and capital competition. America no longer has the infrastructure to manufacture as it once did and labor is still much more expensive than Asians can provide. It’s not all China. Now it’s Viet Nam, India, Central America and some Eastern European countries that are manufacturing our products.
Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell have earned a trip to Abu Ghraib for an “orientation”. It’s time to stop giving into them, and give them a little “Cheney love” instead.

So the choices were have the Republicans agree with your plan (highly unlikely), agree to the Republican’s plan (whatever that was) or meet somewhere in the middle (which is what happened). So who exactly got sold out? The Tea Party who made deficits a bigger deal than they were?
I was on K.P.in basic @ Ft. Jackson in 1959 when I discovered the chief cook urinating in the potato-peeling machine. Nevertheless, you’re quite right – far too much “military” labor is out-contracted. I wonder how much of McConnell’s personal worth of $44million is “invested” in such stuff!
The Army actually started contracting for KP folks for the first time when I was in (66-69). When at Ft. Rucker, contractors had to do the work on our Huey’s and “sign off”, and they did a lousy job, we Army folks were much more concerned, and competent, because WE had to fly in them. It’s gone WAY downhill since then with contractors taking over almost everything, not just stateside, but world-wide, and it’s a huge disaster. BTW. can’t we get by with only $100 million for military bands instead of $320 million? We CAN do without the F-35, just like the F-22, which also spread the work across almost every congressional district to extend its worthless life. We DO need to buy the “good stuff” for “defense”, but could cut those programs by 30% without doing any damage. Another minor example, spending to “upgrade” M-1 tanks that have been stored in excess, as they are “old models” that the general in charge of armor says he doesn’t need or WANT!
Well, at least Boehner has shown more willingness to keep the country running than Cantor. The “cliff” wasn’t even a real speed bump, but now they’ll fight the same bloody battle over the debt limit. Yes, we do need cuts, and as Social Security deductions HAVE increased, as have taxes on the middle class, small reductions in spending on social programs MAY be necessary, but let’s cut the HUGE waste that Obama identified, like insurance payments, and lets NEGOTIATE drug prices for Medicare- that alone is BILLIONS in potential savings, every MONTH!
