Ugh – school isn’t the place for religious stuff. It’s the place where people of all faiths and no faiths can be together and do what schools are for – learn! I’m all for living out your faith, but making the school into a religious center is not right.

when I was growing up we said the Pledge of Allegence EVERY DAY, and we sang “God Bless America”, most every day. We had a Christmas party in December and exchanged gifts. We did not have a Christmas tree in the classroom but there was usually one in the main hall by the office. We had Christmas programs that involved singing Carols and Santa. Seems like no one complained back then. Sad to see the decline of this nation when it comes to Christmas and God. Just sayin’

What exactly is religious about a Christmas Tree? I know what it represents to Christians but that doesn’t make it a religious symbol any more than a river represents baptism. A Christmas Tree is simply a beautiful and fun decoration that can have many meanings for many people at this time of year. BTW – Merry Christmas

Are any of you old enough to remember how our world was when we had the Flag and Pledge of Allegiance inn schiool? That is NOT religion. that is loving, appreciating and honoring your Country. Now, as Christians we pray. We do not ask anyone to pray who does not want to. Nobody “pushed” you to be christian however what I see is you all pushing us to forget GOD and be ethiest, moslem, etc. You told God to leave and I believe he did. As a result, our country is in chaos and your still not happy. If you don’t like the fact that we are and have always been a christian nation, get the H*** out.

Sad but true commentary. When the US was founded the majority of states were church-states. The Founders did not want the Feds to over-ride their authority so they forbid them from establishing a national church (like so many countries in Europe) while at the same them protecting the state-churches. That was the original meaning the the 1st Amendment. The last state to cease to be a church-state was in 1820, almost 45 years after the founding. This understanding the 1st Amendment held until 1948 when the SCOTUS began to redefine the clause to be equate any religious expression on public property with the government establishing a national religion. So now the Amendment intended to protect religion from the state is used as a weapon against the church by the state… And you end up with silly rulings all over the place. Sad.

Tree was a pagan symbol first. Christians adopted it to integrate their religion with the old ways it was easier than out right force.

gooseylou- I’m going to assume the last phrase you wrote is ‘get the Hate out.’Moslems worship the same god you do. All organised religions ‘push’ for converts and raise their children into the fold.Jesus did not teach intolerance, he taught God is love.Let us love. Regardless of which way we worship or or don’t worship or how we describe God.

    Love and compassion.

First, Xmas trees are not religious. Second, there is no restriction on prayer in public schools, as long as it is not officially sanctioned or disruptive. Third, if you don’t actually know what you’re talking about, you might consider avoiding the opportunity to make that obvious.

Well, my kids STILL say the pledge every single day, so I don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

And our school celebrates Christmas. And Hanukkah.

I don’t think our schools should be the ones responsible for teaching YOUR children YOUR religion. Teach them your own damn selves.

It’s happening in the US. It was even featured on this strip about 2 years ago.
