Agreed – the military somehow needs to be financed/run by a non-partisan group. I worked as a contractor for a defense group so I know it is bad and out of control. The counter argument is that, if you think about it, defense is the number one thing for which governments are created. If you were to establish your own country, the first thing you would (or should) do is to provide for the defense of same. Otherwise someone will take it away – by force or by nefarious means.
“Hellfire” missile= $68,000. F-35 “program” = $1.3 TRILLION. The “military” isn’t the real problem, it is “defense” and contracting. How come Republicans fight any “defense” cuts, just as hard as they fought to defend “contractors”, called pharmaceutical companies, on Medicare Part D profits.
Yes, there ARE cuts that can be made, just as there are tax increases that must occur to balance any budget. The trick is, who takes the hit, corporations, the wealthy, or the rest of the nation, as in continuing collapse of our infrastructure?
outsourcing the building and servicing of our weapons of war AND outsourcing the cooking for our soldiers is a terrible breach of security. this needs to be done in-house by soldiers subject to military law and military justice.

I LOVE this cartoon. This has the parties right where we want them. I have a refrigerator dolly, if we get one more, set these two guys on them and then go to the end of 6th Street in DC at the docks beside the Potomac, we can drop these two where they can do twice as much good as they are right now. Such an evil thought, but the sight of them already wearing their concrete galoshes, just makes me all warm and murderous inside.oh well.C.
