Good morning, vagabonds. The above comic reminds when I was once in Merida, Yucatan and there was a corner hotdog stand near a puddle and a car passed by splashing the hotdogs with that dirty puddle water. Boy, do I feel sorry for the people who ate those hotdogs.

Tomorrow this time I should be leaving my apartment for La Guardia Airport.

I got a nice surprise this evening: I have a branch of my family that I’ve had no contact with. A few weeks ago I went on to facebook and googled someone who may be my 3rd cousin. I sent him a message with the details of how he’s genealogically connected to me and asked him to email me if he’s actually my relative.

This evening, while clearing out my junk mail (I never let my junk mail accumulate so I don’t accidently miss a message that may not be junk) and I saw a familiar surname. It turned out to be the son of the facebook cousin who told me he has a genealogy with 418 people

My great grandfather, whose grave I visited the other day in Grapevine had twenty-four children. He married three times. He and his first wife had six children in Mississippi and then came to Texas in 1841. She died not long after giving birth to their seventh child. He then married a 12 year old girl and she gave him seven more children, and died in childbirth on the seventh. He married again, to my great grandmother. She bore him ten children and lived to a ripe old age. My grandfather was number 21, the seventh in the third set. He was born in 1874. I was the youngest pall bearer at his funeral when he died in 1963.

Wow! 24 children! And a 12 -year-old wife! I wish I had known my great grandfather. My great grandparents were born in the 1840s and 50s. My grandparents were born in the 1870s.

Actually, I didn’t know them. He died in 1901 and she died in 1909. It was my grandfather I remember so well.

This is how my family multiplied in spite of all the cousins who were killed in the Holocaust: ome cousins of diffrent generations married each other, causing the overlaps:

My great great grandfather’s had 9 children, 74 grandchildren (including same overlap as above)

A brother of my great great grandfather had 6 children, 21 grandchildren

And the 3rd brother of my great great grandfather had 6 children, 30 grandchildren

And the 4th brother of my great great grandfather had 6 children, 20 grandchildren

My great grandmother’s oldest brother had 36 grandchildren

Another of my great grandmother’s brother’s had 29 grandchildren + 8 more counted who intermarried with my great great grandfather’s brother’s daughter (37)

One of my great grandmother’s sisters had 15 grandchildren (including 2 who were also my great grandmother’s grandchildren)

Another sister of my great grandmother had 1 granchild

And yet another sister of my great grandmotehr had 20 grandchildren

Altogether my great great grandfather had 117 great grandchiklren + 8 who were also great grandcchildren of his brother(125)

My great great grandfather’s brother’d daughter SADIE had 1 grandchildAnother of his daughters had 14 grandchildrenAnd one of his sons had 32 grandchildrenAnd another of his daughters had 39 grandchildren (including 8 who were also grandchildren of my great grandmother’s brother

And yet another daughter of my great great grandfather’s brother had 26 grandchildren

And still another daughter had 16 grandchildren

So my great great grandfather’s 1st brother had 153 great grandchildren

His 2nd brother had 27 great grandchildren

His 3rd brother had 28 great grandchildren

And his 4th brother had 34 great grandchildren

So my triple great grandparents had 359 known great great grandchildren

That’s terrific, Arye. We’ve lost count, but in my records, I find 222 descendants for my grandfather, and 1,241 for my great grandfather. When I retire, I intend to update this. I’ll bet the numbers have doubled since I last worked on it.

Good morning Vagabonds.My sister is the family genealogist, and she is working on a revision of the family genealogy book of the Berkshire Chaffees. That’s Berkshire VT, the old home fram is in sight of the Canada border.This includes going in search of ancestral final resting places, you’d be surprised how many cemeterys the are on old untraveled roads in barely kept up condition..Snowy day, another little clipper sailing through, what a change in weather..Hi to all of you who are to come..ttfn

Wow! Compared to Arye & David, my family is very small. My mom and dad only had one sister each, and their parents were all from small families. I don’t remember any of my great-grandparents, but I have a photo of myself with one of my great-grandmothers when I was an infant. My son, on the other hand, knew 4 of his great-grandparents (my grandparents) as all were living until he was 7 and the last one died when he was 19.

I only have 3 grand children & 1 great grand child (4 months)soooooooo, hope I can make it another 30-40 years to enjoytheir children—(don’t fail me now body) :-) :-)

Rain in Boston with a little snow later. My grandfather on my father’s side, don’t ask me how many generations it is, came from England in 1635. He had 3 sons so I have no idea how many descendants there are. My neice is the family genealogist and she has only concentrated on our line and my mother’s side which she hasn’t gone back as far plus she was doing her father’s side. A very long drawn out process.
