What many Republicans seem to fail to recognize is that abortions will be performed whether they are legal or not. Wealthy people can send their daughters to other countries. Poor people will end up in back alleys. This way, not only will the fetus be aborted, but the mother will often die as well, or become infertile. When they pass legislation that requires more money or time for the woman, or that will make it more costly or impossible for the clinic to remain open, they say they are doing it for the safety of the woman. I don’t see this alternative achieving their stated goal.

Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. Unfortunately, abstinence-only sex “education” programs usually result in a higher teen pregnancy rate. Even Bristol Palin, of the Royal Palins of Alaska, said that abstinence-only is “not realistic”. That is, until she was paid a quarter-mil to say the opposite.

Yet abstinence-only is often the preferred method for the people who oppose abortion. Go figure.

“…. people taking responsibility for their own actions?”I know! Rapists always dodge the real issues and rarely are forced to accept accountability. It’s a gift from God, dammit.

Painful to look at, but it reminds me that no one from the anti choice position never answered my questions.1- What is the penalty for a woman having an abortion? Fine, imprisonment, the death penalty?2- What is the penalty for a Doctor or other performing the abortion? Fine, imprisonment, the death penalty?3- What is the penalty for the father who supports the mother’s choice to have an abortion? Fine, imprisonment, the death penalty?I have more questions, but these are the big ones. With more and more of our prisons being converted into factories where prisoners make products at wages below those paid in China, are laws like these and others meant to help increase that private prison workforce? And is that the America you think about when you say the pledge of allegiance?Respectfully,C.

I do like abortions but I think sometimes they are needed I lost a great aunt when I was younger because she did not want to abort the kid when the doctors said she could die. But on the other hand the women out there should be made aware of all the std out there that can not be cured. And the other thing is I dislike is people like woopie goldberg who uses abortions as birth control.

Pro-Life does not have to mean anti-abortion. No unwanted child should have to be brought into this world. Sanctimonious proclamations about how women should treat an unwanted pregnancy are cruel and hypocritical coming from people who have no business making difficult decisions for others.

Has anyone stopped to realize that should “personhood amendments” pass, making “conception” the determining factor, the “faith gestapo” will be arresting any woman buying tampons, hauling her in for interrogation, and demanding PROOF, that she wasn’t “disposing of a human”?

I Play One On TV said, about 16 hours agoWhat many Republicans seem to fail to recognize is that abortions will be performed whether they are legal or not. (end quote)what many Democrats seem to fail to recognize is that any abortion is the mother murdering her own baby in violation of God’s Moral Law. Like killings that are murder, better it be illegal and a crime that if proved is punishable. That is for the protection of society as a whole. Without laws to protect human life, born and preborn, society returns to the Dark Ages where human life is without value and life devolves to worse than the beasts.God is going to judge every human that in spite of His revelation and offer of eternal life to those who trust in Him and obey His moral standards, those who reject God’s great gift of His Son’s atonement on the cross to pay for all our sins, must be judged and sent to eternity far from God and His family. That is so sad. I want everyone to wake up from Satan’s deceits and turn to the God of the Bible, the only true God who always was and is and will be.

The proof supporting the “anti-abortion”, “pro-life” folks position that those “unwanted children” will all find loving homes is the fact that there isn’t a single child in America in foster care, or up for adoption!!!! There also hasn’t been a single case of violence against children, to include not ONE SINGLE homicide of a child in a home where poverty, drug abuse, or other clinical psychiatric problems exist!

Two responses to your reply,I’ve asked under several toons recently how these laws should be enforced and will continue to do so.You can’t make the law without saying how you’ll enforce it.The second is that I know some very thoughtful conservatives and have even seen thoughtful conservative responses in these forums. There are extremists in every party and most organizations but it does not behoove us to pigeonhole a whole philosophy for the actions of a few.We don’t encourage an answer if people think a reply will only invoke a worse response.Thank you for your reply,Respectfully,C.

I wouldn’t pass anti abortion laws.As a male, I have no voice in what is a woman’s health issue. But if Roe vs Wade is overturned, there has to be some legal penalty for violating the law and having an abortion. It is the conservatives who wish to overturn Roe v Wade and I simply want to know what are the penalties you’d invoke? If I want my freedoms recognized and respected, I have to respect the choices of other, even those I vehemently disagree with, such as the Westboro Baptist Church folks who protest at military funerals. God Bless Intimidating Bikers. What penalties would you place on women, doctors, and fathers?C..

I don’t believe our pool of commentators represent a true representative sample for our experiment. Most of the conservatives my theory would include may not even read the comments, much less respond to them. This is not a….gentle place to exchange ideas. The effort to reach out in sincere compromise is an example citizens need to set for their elected officials, as those elected no longer have the moral and ethical standing to set an example for us.You may be proved right over time, but if I quit reaching out to my neighbors I fail my Creator, and the sacrifices made by all those Americans who gave all for us to have our rights. But that’s just my opinion, and I could be wrong.Respectfully, C.
