SEE???? The seventh set of toons there!I said it in at least two other places.Bayonets in trained hands are very dangerous.Pointy…Sharp…Oh, and while I know the military and Obama aren’t in total agreement on things, I think he does better than Romney might. Colin Powell seems to think so too.C.

We spend over one trillion dollars annually on welfare payments alone. The amount we spend overall on social gimmes dwarfs the amount we spend on military. Obama blames the military spending instead of the outrageous social spending. The social spending will grow exponentially as we all keep ending up in the poor house. Soon we won’t be able to afford any military at all, at which point we will lose any hope of maintaining our autonomy.

When I was taking bayonet training, the D.I. said “If the bayonet gets stuck, just pull the trigger and shoot the guy off your bayonet.” I responded, “IF I still have a bullet left, WHY should I let the guy get close enough to use the bayonet?”

Yes, a bayonet may still have a use, but with MRE’s, “Hellfire” missiles, where we used to use them to open C-rations, I can’t see much use for them today. Even in close situations like a “kill house”, a SigSauer makes more sense than a bayonet. We aren’t fighting trench warfare tactics any more.

Trout, I know you weren’t in Marine Corps boot camp because you a) would never have responded to the drill instructors and b) would never have referred to yourself in the first person. Bayonet training was first phase of boot camp, when you would have been too afraid to say anything to the DI’s. I call BS.As to the strawman that says “spend so much money on the military but let our children starve,” with a child obesity rate nearly 50%, I’m pretty certain that children are not starving in this country. When was the last time someone in a metropolitan area starved to death, much less a child?

Wraithkin, I was smart enough to know that joining the Marine Corps was the dumbest thing I could have done in 1966. The guys lining up who were drafted, and sent to the Marines in L.A., about “you know what” in their pants when a Marine D.I. stepped around the corner and informed them they were now drafted into the Marines!

In ’Nam, we several times had to bail out Marines who were in “deep trouble”. Their “predicament” more than proved I was better off being an Army crew chief.

A lot of my friends were Marines. I respect them. However, when I see: “officer” USMC ret, my experience doesn’t create any sense of respect for them. I just saw too many good men killed because of “poor judgement” on the part of Marine officers.

Bush and the GOP gave veterans a Big Bird when they got home from the Middle east, and I don’t mean the cute yellow bird.Since you’re a conservative, let me be literal. By, “Big Bird”, I mean they got the middle finger.

China and Russia combined, spend 1/5th of what we spend on military. Russia and the former USSR, have a long history of having a much smaller effective fighting force than they claim. Putin wants to re-establish Russia as a world power, but other than ICBMs, does not have the funds to do so. China is becoming a regional power, but they are years away from having an effective Navy. They have one aircraft carrier, and they don’t have aircraft or pilots capable of using it.The Quadrennial Review calls for about 300 ships, and they don’t want more battleships or carriers. They want more small ships and more support ships. Even those vessels are extremely expensive, and I don’t think we should buy them just because some admirals think it would be nice to have more ships. Compared to all the other navies in the world combined, the U.S. has an overwhelming advantage. I doubt any other nation could field a bigger cavalry force wither. You are a miserable hack, Ramirez.

President Obama & his team are inept and need to go. If gov Romney is 1/2 as bad as president o, we will have to vote him out in 4. At this point, pres o is not the man for the job.

“…They are part of the DOD and therefor the MIC…” Agreed. And those taxpayers that want to give additional money to ‘Special Defense Projects’ should add the amount to their Income Tax Return. Meanwhile, Cut the Defense Budget for R&D.

“…make sure that you are smarter than the horse!” The same should go for electing Congressionals. US needs more ‘horse sense’. Maybe voters should be required to pass a ‘horse sense’ quiz. Nahh. I take that back. You can turn a horse by waving hay in its face. Most voters are turned by promising them ‘free’ benefits from govt.
