My dad and I didn’t hug much, but on my wedding night he gave me a big hug. Arlo and Gene remind me of that.

It certainly isn’t, Gus. There’s lots more fun to come! ((Hugsniffle))

At first I didn’t know whether Gus was talking to his guests, inviting them back into the restaurant to continue the reception, or to J.J.’s readers, inviting them to continue following the strip.

Then I realized it was both.

I was a blubbering idiot at both my girls weddings. Especially the younger one’s, her being the last out of the house.

I wish my mom and dad were here to see me get married. God willing, i’ll have my aunt and uncle who raised me but it just isn’t the same.

Glad to see this strip is going to continue, been too many familiar things being retired or just plain changed not for the better.I’m staying with you JJ!This is my most favorite strip, which of course just cursed it since saying that out loud.

Yay for panel 2. My Dad hugged me often, and my Mom hugged me daily. That’s a life lived well.

At my sister’s wedding they took a picture of my dad with his empty pockets turned inside out.

‘Scuse me, folks, but you’re so good at interpreting stuff. I’m not getting a regular paper-newspaper today, so looked up Sally Forth on seattletimes.nwsource.com/comics/Couldn’t find any site with a discussion. If any of you follow Sally Forth, could you explain what Sally’s sister is referring to when she says, ‘OH NO!"? Thanks for any light you might shed on this subject. Otherwise, I won’t perish while waiting for the answer.

The first time I saw my dad cry was when he took his first look at me in my wedding gown.

“I think she’s seeing that Sally sees a way to kill 2 birds with one stone, by having Jackie move in with Mom.”Thanks, Dave! That makes a lot of sense.

Now that is the same kind of courage and stoicism that took Normandy.

We have a picture of my Dad – in his tux- with a grin from ear to ear and a fired-up chain saw in his hands, belching a cloud of smoke “volunteering” to cut the cake for us at our wedding (& the restaurant’s owner, a friend coming toward him with a “now, Al” sort of look on his face). Bittersweet memory, Dad’s present frailty and onset of dementia preclude the playing of such pranks anymore.

I love these guys as if they were real. We just had a wonderful wedding in our family. Our son married a wonderful girl with wondferful parents. Another son was best man and his wife’s band, of which he is a member, blew the crowd away. Their daughter, two and a half, was flower girl. The next day, our daughter’s boyfriend, in our province with her for the wedding, asked for our blessing to propose to her which he then did in Quebec city, in the next province over where his parents live. They live way out west so it is also gratifying that they both have strong roots here and nearby. We are as happy as Gene’s and Mary Lou’s parents.
