In my experience it’s the boss that’s most likly to park on top of the cubical wall to chat when I have work to do.

I had that happen too. I knew if I didn’t avoid this lady, I would be standing there for half an hour without even the chance to say ‘I got work to do’.
Is this a promotion for you or is he just moving to your department?

I’m being laterally transferred from Frozen Foods to the Dairy Department

I could run frozen by myself but dairy is too big

I hate managing people, it’s so hard to remember that just because they don’t do things exactly the way I would that doesn’t mean they did it wrong

Well, at least it will be a little warmer. But, I hear you there too. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and you have to remember that not every one is. Sometimes you have to just grit your teeth and go back and do it yourself if you have time. Good luck!

You don’t “manage” people. You lead them. Or direct them. If they buy into your program, you coach them. My advice? Go into your first day with an open mind and spend the first 15 minutes laying out your expectations. It will be time well spent.

Best boss I ever had had a “kill them with kindness” attitude. If he needed something and you were frivolously chatting with someone, he would walk away, and come back. If it was important, he would say, “See me when you are through.” If you did something substandard, he would have you sit and watch him tear it apart, rebuild it, and then have you explain the difference between what you did and his work and why his might be better or worse.
