I’m glad your new dress worked out, Cathy…but, Have Mercy on poor Irving… You know what “they” say: out of sight, out of mind…don’t count on: absence makes the heart grow fonder! Irving can only stand so much! You’re confusing the heck out of the poor man… ;)

Too bad her mom isn’t there to knock some sense into her!

Happy Saturday, Cathy clan! Hope the weather’s nice where you are!

Cathy spills way too much information. Always one of her quirks that work against her.

She and Irving have always had a brutally honest relationship. Why not get married?

On the 4-8 watch, we brought the four engines up for air operations.

In the Gulf of Tonkin, Yankee Station, you need 30 knots to launch aircraft because there was no wind.

The sun was slowly thundering over the sea of glass. There was quietness on the watch before air operations.

I looked at that senior picture of you. I remember how skinny you were as a junior. But you had such a pretty face. In your senior year, you gained weight. That upset you.

Looking at that small picture, I wondered, “You don’t know how beautiful you are, do you?”

I put it back into my wallet and prepare for the chaos and craziness of carrier operations.

We wanted to have both my ship’s Catholic and her village Fathers marry us.

When we asked Father Sullivan, he told the truth. He knew how much of a womanizer I was overseas. The big black haired Irishman took my wife’s hand, “You and I are from the same poverty. He is not a man to marry.”

He refused to perform the marriage.

Little Mexican girls listen to Catholic fathers. But my wife loved me more.

Her village Catholic father performed the wedding mass. “I do not speak English. Mass is in Spanish.”

My wife had to tell when to say, “Si”.

In her white wedding dress of a virgin, my wife and I stepped under the crossed swords of my friends, dressed in their full dress white naval uniforms.

We began our 40 year marriage.

    Father Sullivan was right.

I was her third child after my son and daughter.
