Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

If the fundies who whine and moan about the “War On Christmas” really had their priorities straight, they’d complain about the commercialism.

…don’t look at it as a compitition but rather as a melding together of the secular and religious….(brought to you by….)

Sorry Dad. Unless you lock out all but PBS, commercials are here to stay.
But then you’ll have to put up with money drives. Put up or shut up

Its a great time of year. All sorts of religious and cultural traditions stirred together – Saturnalia, Yule, Solstice, it wasn’t suprising the Christians wanted to join in the fun too. The lights appear earlier now for Diwali – its all good. :-)

@Linux0s
Bitter sarcasm is wonderful medicine for the stressed . . . just read gocomics’ comments if you don’t believe me.

What pees me is that all the specials are sentimental twaddle – everything is about being kind and getting together and mending emotional fences etc (not that there’s anything wrong with those things), but the meaning of Christmas is a celebration of the birth of CHRIST – not a getfest and "oooh – look, Santa’s real and he’s Kelsey Grammar’’.
Christ came to give us a message of caring for one another – even the people we don’t like are worthy of respect. He didn’t just come to pave the way for Santa Claus, patron saint of ‘oooh, gimme, gimme, gimme’.
(Rant over)

Oh, not quite . . .
Jesus is for life – not just for Christmas

Don’t you just love how the TV is always bouncing around when Calvin’s watching it. LOL
BTW, modern day “Christmas” is commercialism. Christ was NOT born at this time of year…. he was born in the early
Spring. “and there were shepherd’s keeping watch over their flocks by night..” Shepherd’s only do this at lambing season. :P
Our “Christmas” is the church’s way of latching onto a pagan holy day (winter solstice) and pasting religious figures over the pagan deities and making it into a religious event, instead of the pagan celebration it originally was. The world is just taking back what it was to begin with. Any excuse to party and appease the “powers that be” into letting the sun come back. Instead of human sacrifice, at least all we do is spend too much money on junk. :) Pretty good trade, I think.

I think this is one time you can let Calvin enjoy the show, Dad, without the commentary on life such as it is.
